Vidyut Niyamak Bhawan is developed as a Signature Building with the objective to underscore conservation of environment through energy efficiency and use of green i.e. solar & regenerative energy. It is the First-ever Energy Efficient Public Building in the State of Uttar Pradesh benchmarked against the best GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) standards. Vidyut Niyamak Bhawan is certified by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) as Energy Efficient Building. BEE mentions - “UPERC building is an energy efficient one and can act as a model building for others to adopt similar measures”. To achieve the target of energy efficiency, the building has a central control room equipped with advance Building Management System (BMS) which monitors and controls various services /systems in the building. All the electrical devices installed in the building are of highest energy efficiency. Further, Smart meters are installed at local electrical feeders and integrated with BMS to measure energy consumptions and other parameters in continuous and real time basis. The building is equipped with 70 KW solar plant connected with the grid under net-metering mechanism, which helps to off-set annual energy demand from grid considerably. The plant is equipped with micro-MPPT system that helps in attaining better efficiency i.e. generation and enhances system safety. Further, the building has highly efficient regenerative lifts that also produces energy depending upon load and direction. To reduce energy consumption in lift, it is fitted with VFD ( Variable Frequency Drive) driven main motor as well as doors, LED lights and has feature of IDLE mode that helps save energy when lift is not in use. To keep AC load low, construction of outer-walls and roof of building is done using Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) Blocks (in place of regular bricks) and XPS whereas Double Glass Unit (DGU) is used in windows. Further, with use of Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV) based AC System the energy consumption on air-conditioning is also reduced drastically. The entire AC system is also centrally controlled from central control room.
