We spent several days exploring Wallonia, the underrated French-speaking region in southern Belgium—and it completely surprised us. From wild nature and deep gorges to historic towns and vintage train rides, this trip showed us a side of Belgium that most travelers never experience. Our journey began in Malmedy, a charming town surrounded by rolling hills and forests. From there, we headed into the High Fens National Park (Hautes Fagnes)—a vast peat-moor landscape unlike anything else in Belgium, with wooden boardwalks, open plains, and dramatic weather that made the whole place feel otherworldly. We also rode the historic steam train from Mariembourg (CFV3V), a slow and scenic journey through the valleys of Viroin and Haute Meuse. It felt like stepping back in time and is easily one of Wallonia’s most unique experiences. One of the biggest surprises of the trip was Fondry des Chiens, often called “Belgium’s Grand Canyon.” This massive natural limestone gorge is one of the country’s most striking geological formations—and hardly anyone talks about it. To wrap up the trip, we explored Mons, a beautiful historic city full of cobblestone streets, architecture, cafés, and cultural spots that gave us a peaceful, authentic end to the journey. 📍 Locations Featured: – Malmedy town – High Fens National Park (Hautes Fagnes) – Historic steam train ride from Mariembourg (CFV3V) – Fondry des Chiens (Belgium’s biggest gorge) – Mons old town – Scenic routes, viewpoints, and small villages along the way 🎒 What to expect in this video: – POV travel + honest first reactions – Cinematic nature shots and drone footage – Offbeat places, hidden gems, and underrated towns – Practical impressions for planning your own Wallonia trip Wallonia turned out to be one of the most surprising regions we’ve ever explored in Belgium — and we hope this video helps you discover a part of the country that most tourists completely miss.
