University of Colorado psychiatrists Thida Thant, MD, and Helen Murray, MD, applied ethical principles to the assessment and management of complex capacity evaluations involving psychiatric disorders, described how psychiatric conditions can impact medical decision-making capacity, and reviewed approaches and strategies to assess medical capacity in patients with psychiatric conditions. Thida Thant, MD, is Assistant Professor, CU School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Director, UCH Psychiatry Consult Service. Helen Murray, MD, is Assistant Professor, CU School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry. Moderated by Gianna Morales, Lead Ethics Consultant, University of Colorado Health.
