Student Role-Play of Symbolic-Experiential Family Therapy James and Beth met through mutual friends while at college. They married shortly after graduation in 2006. James got a degree in construction management and Beth earned her degree in business administration. James and Beth hoped to have a close relationship with each other that included traveling and joining a co-ed softball league. They had also planned to start a family, hoping for two children. Both obtained high-powered careers that left them tired at the end of long days. James, who previously drank socially, began drinking nightly at home while watching whatever sporting event airing on ESPN. To avoid conflict with James over alcohol use, Beth began bringing work home from the office. Beth called in search of therapy because she feels the two of them have become distant and constantly argue about the lack of intimacy in their marriage.
