The Thing: Survivor Scale | Who Is the Best Survivor? The Thing: Survivor Scale Welcome to Survivor Scale, where we rank the characters in all our favorite horror movies. I’m H2Mass and today, I’m ranking every character in one of my favorite films: John Carpenter’s 1982 sci-fi-horror classic The Thing. However, instead of ranking them based on their writing or how much I like them, I’m going to grade these characters in terms of their survivability, by how well I think they’d perform in various horror situations. For example, how well would MacReady fare in A Nightmare on Elm Street or Palmer in Friday the 13th or Childs in The Shining? Keep in mind, though, that this scale captures their overall aptitude, not just how well they performed in this film. I value things that are useful in nearly every situation over things that are specific to any particular movie or setting--so things like adaptability, awareness, and caution tend to hold more value to me than knowledge in a particular field or skills with a specific weapon.
