An exciting moment for the preservation scene as for the first time in 20 plus years a U Class mogul has ventured onto the mainline! Swanage Railways 31806 made its mainline debut on Friday the 13th of April with her test run from its home branch line to Yeovil along the LSWR mainline via Weymouth. The test utilised Swanage Railways own stock and assisting Class 33 D6515. On a rather gloomy day, I captured the loco as she crossed Norden Level Crossing on the first leg of her journey to Wareham where we see her arrive and depart. Lastly we see the loco attacking the climb of Upwey bank on the exit from Weymouth as she heads towards Yeovil. The test was all in preparation for the Great Britain XI taking place over the next couple of weeks, and 31806 will feature in day 8 of the tour as it heads for Swanage.
