🏞️ Explore Cooroy Queensland ~ Things to do in and around Cooroy in the Noosa Hinterland Cooroy is a small town in the Noosa Hinterland located 130 kilometres north of Brisbane and 22 kilometres from Noosa. It was originally a timber town settled in the late 1880s; it is now a haven for creatives, foodies and nature enthusiasts. We then visited the Noosa Botanical Gardens and wandered along the heritage trail. The German Bakehouse in Cooroy is a popular spot for locals and visitors to enjoy breakfast, lunch, coffee and delicious German cakes. It is open seven days a week and has a lovely outdoor seating area. The Mill Place Precinct houses an Adventure Playground, the historic Lower Mill Site Kiln and various other buildings. The Hinterland Adventure Playground has impressive towers, climbing frames, slippery dips, natural waterplay areas, flying foxes, swings, a sand pit, a sensory garden, tunnels, and several picnic and BBQ areas. The Cooroy Lower Mill Site Kiln was built in the late 1950s to enable faster seasoning of hardwood timbers. It is the only known example of a timber-drying kiln in the Sunshine Coast region and was restored in 2009 as a visitor interpretive centre. You can wander around and see the plant, boiler, and kiln areas, and there are many informative signs to read about the site and its history. The Butter Factory Arts Centre houses local art exhibitions and workshops in the old butter factory that was built in 1930. It also has a lovely artisan retail store and is open from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm, Tuesday to Sunday. The Noosa Botanic Gardens, located on the shores of Lake Macdonald, are five kilometres from Cooroy. The gardens comprise eight hectares of native and exotic plant species and a stunning Greek-style amphitheatre. They are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and entry is free. Dogs are also allowed, as long as they are on a leash. We wandered around Cooroy along the Heritage Walk, looking at the historic buildings. The Cooroy Post Office was initially opened at the Railway Station in 1892, and it was moved to its current building in 1914. The Memorial Hall and School of Arts building was built in 1910 for the proposed Noosa Council Chambers; today, it is used for community social events. Cooroy has lovely street art around the town; make sure you look down, and you will see some interesting artwork on the pavement.
