Botshabelo residents build shacks on vacant land

Some Botshabelo residents in the Free State have started erecting shacks on several vacant land. They claim that they have previously applied for RDP houses and have proof dating back to the 90s and the early 2000s. The residents say they're still waiting for their promised houses. Last month, the country marked 110 years of the 1913 Natives Land Act that prohibited black people from owning, leasing or acquiring land. The National Council of Provinces is currently conducting hearings for the Land Expropriation Bill in various parts of the country.
