Safari in Meru Kenya June 2015

This Safari was filmed in late June 2015 in Meru National Park in Kenya. It was a few weeks after the end of the long rains. The weather was hot at around 28-30 degrees centigrade but cool enough at night to make sleeping fairly comfortable. Sweaters weren't needed at all. Vegetation was still quite green, along the river valleys, of which there are many in Meru. The bush was generally dry and the lack of leaves aided game sightings. The open grasslands were drying out to brown and gold. Game sightings were very good and there is a large variety of big game found in the park and neighbouring Bisanadi National Reserve. There is a rhino sanctuary of around 100 square kilometres in the north of the park. Black and white rhinos are present. Poaching of elephants has declined in the last three years. Snares for bushmeat remain a great menace , and thousands have been collected by park rangers. Highly recommended for a visit and with the added bonus that visitor numbers are low.
