Electron beam irradiation (e-beam) can be used to both sterilize and crosslink products in their packaging. Accelerated electrons (also called beta rays) are generated by electron accelerators, which can be compared to a cathode ray tube. A hot cathode emits electrons which are accelerated in a strong electrical field and a high vacuum. On leaving the accelerator, the electron beam is deflected in an alternating magnetic field so that it reaches the products to be irradiated as a fan-shaped beam. Advantages of the process at a glance: The irradiation time is only a few seconds. The irradiation works residue-free and without chemicals. Products can be irradiated as individual cartons, Bulk goods in containers and ss coiled products on drums. Products can be processed without delay - without storage and the associated costs.
