DEADLY FRIEND Death Scene I was Robot in Final Scene

This is how a 'live' robot (well, dead) is made .. first the hair under a skull cap, the makeup, face & any body part(s) showing, then the heavy plastic LOCKED mask, oxygen inside so one can breath and then the thin death mask over the heavy mask .. a wire inside connect to a tube outside to press that makes the eyes light up .. MOVIE magic used to make the hands look as if they are removed from the arms .. I said this before, someplace, Old age makes you forget when/where or even IF? .. BUT .. I worked on the retakes of "Deadly Friend" as Production Coordinator .. Kristy Swanson needed to be doubled (extra work) for the scene .. we hired an extra and spent 3 weeks preparing for the 'new scenes or retakes?' .. Had we used Kristy .. money could have been an object . but to play a robot .. she was not needed and perhaps she was on another 'shoot' .. I was in the production office doing MY work when they were doing a film test out back at Warner Bros. .. I don't remember if in the camera dept. or on a stage .. it was my boss.. he said 'we have a problem here' .. I panicked figuring I had forgotten to order film or something needed for the 'test' .. Nope .. he said 'the Extra freaked out when she realized that we had to pump oxygen into the mask(s) so she could breath . I know you have a small face & have had many tests for your disease, would you do it?' .. I said "Sure" .. Glad I still had a job:) .. The Boss sent a CAR to get me and bring me out back .. the ORANGE mask was TIGHT to the head with clips/locks on each side .. thus the oxygen tubes (2) inside taped to my face AND then they put the 'death mask' on top of that (I sure wish I looked that young:) . All the masks had been fitted for the EXTRA 3 weeks worth .. it was a bit tight on me .. they began to 'roll camera' .. Wes Craven was the director .. he said he would help me to sit up for the 'scene'... I could not do that anymore .. well, I could NOT breath .. I said 'I can't breath' . no one heard me:( .. I finally hit someone .. they cut camera .. opened me up and I said could not breath .. someone, it seems (do NOT know to this day!) was standing on the oxygen TUBES .. I may have been blue? .. I took the photos I have here that were given to me and put them up so you can see what all had to go on to film the scene . we were at an earthquake closed hospital in the MORGUE:( .. I was promised NO one was ever in there .. I found out later that was a lie .. I was fitted over the weekend a bit .. as best they could in two days to get ready for the 'shoot on Monday' .. My boss drove me to location .. gave me 'drive to money' .. even though he took me .MAYBE it was $15? . I don't remember .do remember that I wound up getting an extra $500 for the 3/4 days it took to do both Production Coordinator & Extra .. .You can see how I had to look nude (was NOT .. I had something I taped to my body that worked:) .. they had to put on the skull cap .. then I went to the 'set' to do a rehearsal with Matthew Laborteaux .. Wes Craven can be seen in one shot .. I had NO makeup on at that point .. they always use BODY makeup when any part of one's body is exposed (all films) .. That was done . I was turned from the mirror as the makeup man put on the makeup on my face (he only did face . another person did body makeup) .. when he turned me toward the mirror . I then saw the BLACK all aorund my mouth . I have many more photos of me looking as beginingg to beak up . there was a photog who captured everything .. and I was given sets (2) of all they shot that day/photo wise .. you can see Matthew . Phil Lathrop, one of hte BEST Cinematographers (whom I had worked with before) talking to me and setting the lighting et al .. he has on the straw hat . LOVELY man .. then you can see the ORANGE HEAVY MASK that would light up/eyes by special effects pushing on a wife (boy did my nose hurt for MONTHS . but it had NOT been fitted for me!) .. Not sure IF the mouth was always opened or if that opened when wire was pushed .. over THAT mask was the 'death mask' that was meant to look like Kristy Swanson . I had to sit up break through that to grab & strangle Matthew, who told me to really strangle him:( .. (then told me NOT DURING REHEARSAL . what do I know? .. I was NOT an actress) .. you see him opening the morgue drawer . then the thin mask .. Any ?s .. feel free to ask .. Meant to add, the reason for the BLACK all around my mouth was so that the OPEN mouth of the ROBOTIC thingy would NOT see my fair skin underneath .. I was WEIRD looking .. Free Lunch & dinner too:) AND, the head of Warner Bros Feature Production called to thank me for 'saving the movie' .. course, was NOT the best . but OK .. It was my scene to double Kristy Swanson .. Not one of Wes Craven's or Warner Bros best Movies .. but I did get to work for Michael Wadleigh on the re edit of "WOODSTOCK" .. the film that saved Warner Bros. .. Nancy E. Barr, retired production coordinator
