We had the opportunity to sit down with Coach Fred Duncan and learn more about his story and his coaching philosophy. Coach Fred has a phenomenal track record of helping athletes build incredible power. Here is what we talked about: He talks about how Coach Buddy Morris has helped shape his philosophy (3:15). Coach Fred tells his story being an elite level tennis player and his battles with shoulder injuries (5:55). Fred then was influenced to attend Chiropractic and PT school and he gives his candid experiences (8:05). Fred did not see eye to eye with the outdated material being taught so during this time he opened a training facility with Buddy Morris in Buffalo (11:44). Coach Fred also shares what the experiences of going to Chiro and PT schools taught him (12:50). Fred then talks about programming and things that are important to consider to become a better coach and better programmer (17:00). We discuss the differences of programming for general population and athlete population (23:45). Fred drops some gold about how he individualizes programming for general physical preparation (27:30). We then transition back into sports and discuss why it is important to train maximal linear speed even in sports like tennis, basketball or golf though hitting top end may not even occur in the sport (30:00). Fred tells us if he had to choose 1-2 pieces of equipment ONLY, what would he choose (37:00). Fred tells us about a case of one of his professional hockey players with a back injury and how they found a way to train pain free (40:36).
