This piece has always been an intriguing Jarre composition. Its playful use of street soundscapes, along with the almost rhythmic repetition of camera shutter clicks, evokes images of tourists and the lively bustle of a busy street. The studio version has a clinically clean soundscape. I was driving around downtown Helsinki in my work car when the 1986 Live in Lyon version of this track popped up on my Spotify playlist. Alongside the synths, it features a live‑played fretless bass. I’ve been playing fretless myself for about a year and a half now, and my ear instantly recognized that meowing bass tone. It stuck with me, so I went looking for a suitable MIDI. I rebuilt the sounds to match the original more closely, and then recorded my own version in a single take. There’s no fancy trickery here — it’s more of a jam, and it doesn’t fully follow the original.
