Buying a standing perch for your bird can be ridiculously overpriced. Here is a simple and cheap way to build a pretty neat portable cube perch out of PVC that is both big and solid enough for your medium-large parrot to move around and play on. Notice: -This was a new project for me, and I had a lot of fun. The dimensions of the cube did not come out perfect, and it was a bit larger than I expected. If you want to figure out your own dimensions, remember that each connection adds about 1"-1.25" to your overall length. Also note that if you do not cut each piece perfectly and sand the edges flat, the cube will not sit perfectly flat. I did not worry about either of these things and still came out with an awesome cube that sits flat on one of the sides. It is not perfectly symmetrical, but it will work just fine :). What you will need: 4 x (1/2"W x 24"L PVC piping) 8 x (1/2" Corner caps) 8 x (1/2" T-Connections) -Something to cut the PVC with (I used a Sawzall hand saw, which was sold right next to the piping) -Something to tap the piece in together tightly (I used a rubber mallet that I picked up at the Dollar Store) -A tape measurer Optional: Tape to add grip Cost Estimate: Piping - $13 Optional: Tape - $3 Sawzall Hand Saw - $20 Tape Measurer - $1 Rubber Mallet - $1 Directions: 1) Cut out 8 x 8" pieces of PVC out of the 24" tubes 2) Cut each of these pieces in half (you should wind up with 16 x 4" pieces) 3) Tap connections into place 4) Measure out pieces for how tall you would like the cube. I cut 6" verticals but the cube was not perfect as a result. I figured that you would need roughly 9" vertical pieces to have a more perfect cube. 5) Connect the top and bottom sections using your vertical pieces. 6) Optional: Add grip tape.
