The tide pools at La Jolla (http://californiatidepools.com/la-jol... ) provide a unique opportunity to see a wide diversity of marine life in a small area. The are several tide pools way high up in the tide zone that have mussel, gooseneck barnacles and other animals that normally life lower in the tide zone. These high tide pools are replenished with cold sea water periodically and stay cool enough to allow these animals to live. This area also has large mats of red and brown algae growing on the flat areas. There are numerous smaller surge channels that have lots of juvenile fish and sculpins darting about. The farther out you go, there are deeper channels that have larger fish like garibaldi that are common to see.
