Beautiful Girl Words by Arthur Freed, music by Nacio Herb Brown Harry Reser and His Eskimos Vocal refrain by Jimmy Breierly Recorded September 26, 1933 Perfect 15826 Harry Reser (1896 - 1965) was the foremost banjoist-bandleader for many years. He conducted the Clicquot Club Eskimo Orchestra on radio from 1925 to 1935. He was also the musical director of Okeh Syncpators, Jazz Pilots, Six Hayseeds, Six Jumping Jacks,and other groups. He also led dance bands of various sizes under his own name. His early bands played semi-hot and featured his banjo playing, and his specialty was raucous novelty arrangements. In the early and mid 1930s he changed to a more sweet style of playing. He composed the 1937 swing number "The Goona-Goo." He reamained active as a band leader through the 1940s, and led TV studio and theatre orchestras until his death in 1965. "Beautiful Girl" was featured in the 1933 MGM film "Stage Mother" starring Maureen O'Sullivan and sung by Sam Ash. The same year it was featured in another film "Going Hollywood" in which it was sung by Bing Crosby. In 1952 the song was used the film "Singin' in the Rain."
