This is an interview from my personal archives from 2014 when I was working on a proposal for a 33 1/3 book for American Water. The proposal wasn't selected, but in light of David's unfortunate death yesterday I have been revisiting them and I thought it might be helpful for others to hear them, too. This is 3 of 3. He is really sincere and open, a truth-teller in a culture of lies. He talks about some of the details of the formation of the band (including a funny detail about phoning Kim Gordon & Thurston Moore and recording Silver Jews songs into their answering machine), his thoughts on Pavement's rise and his friendships with Bob Nastanovich and Stephen Malkmus - Including a ponderance on Stephen's ability to always win, and his own comfort being in 2nd place.
