The Kaleidoscope - Side Trips. Released May 1967 in the US on Epic BN 26304. This is an original Stereo Pitman pressing ("P" in runouts). Note: this is the Los Angeles unit, not the UK or Mexican bands of the same name. This record captures the eclectic energy of the CA underground, merging folk, Middle Eastern motifs, and psych. The band, featuring David Lindley and Chris Darrow focused on string-driven textures. The intersection between science and music is found in the engineering, which maintains the transient detail of the oud and saz against an electric rhythm section. Barry Friedman’s production preserves the spatial intimacy of this world-music ensemble. While the band never reached massive commercial heights, this album remains a primary document of the 1960s LA scene. This original Pitman pressing is the definitive way to hear these multi-layered arrangements, offering an immersive soundstage that captures the complex harmonic overtones of the exotic instrumentation. 🔥 Standout Tracks Egyptian Gardens Keep Your Mind Open Please 🎸 Sounds Like: It's A Beautiful Day H.P.
