A representation of the path that the approximately 70 ships that Sultan Mehmed II (Fatih Sultan Mehmet, aka Mehmed the Conquerer) used to move across land on the 22nd of April 1453 during the siege of Constantinople (later Istanbul/İstanbul), in order to bypass the chain blocking the entrance to the Golden Horn. By doing so the Ottomans managed to slip behind the enemy defenses whilst this move gave him the advantage of attacking the walls in a more vulnerable spot and although it didn’t do much damage, it was a big morale blow on the city’s defenders to wake up and see enemy vessels inside the Golden Horn. Adding to that, moving soldiers to this area of the walls weakened the already insufficient numbers needed to defend and repair damaged areas where the main attack was taking place. ---- #Constantinople#1453#Ottoman ---- Source; https://belgelerlegercektarih.com/201... http://wowturkey.com/forum/viewtopic.... https://www.facebook.com/groups/76818...
