Following Google's 20:1 stock split, Amazon just announced a 20 for 1 stock split after their Q4 2021 earnings report, including a $10B share buyback program. First of all, what is a stock split? How does a stock split work? Why does a company split its stock? Well, a stock split happens when a company chooses to increase the number of its outstanding shares to boost the stock's liquidity, usually by a factor of 2:1 or 3:1. However, in Amazon's case, liquidity isn't an issue. So, why did Amazon announce a 20:1 stock split? Should you buy Amazon stock before OR after the stock split? Is Amazon Stock a BUY right now?
