Wood turning epoxy resin bowl: Actually, a cherry burl and resin HONEY POT 🍯 Er, scratch that-how about wood turning a cherry burl and resin NOT-SOUP BOWL! 🍲 Holy moly, this project was all kinds of challenging! But nevertheless, she persisted. 🤨 There were issues with the chuck mounting and there were issues with the resin. I’m still not sure why I’m having so much trouble with the mortises, though I think this time it was a lack of attention to the grain orientation when I mounted the chuck into the mortise. This was my last bit of Alumilite Clear resin, which sets in 5-7 minutes, and the reason I had issues with the resin shattering is because it had started to go off before I got it in the pressure pot. I will definitely be ordering the Clear Slow next time, which will give me extra time to get the blank situated and into the pressure pot. The cherry burl should have been dry, especially since I put it in the turkey roaster for a few hours before I cast the blank, but there are some white bits along the wood/resin joints that lead me to believe there was still some moisture. Next time I’ll check the blank with the moisture meter before I go ahead with the resin. Since the resin separated along a joint line in the burl, I’m guessing that maybe there was a little bit of bark or dirt residue still on the blank and that prevented the resin from getting a good bite on it.
