Updated Triplanar Corneal Incision Technique: Is this Better?
A triplanal corneal incision provides stronger wound architecture because there is more corneal stroma in the incision. More stroma means more strength. A no-touch technique can be used with a OVD cannula within the wound to help control of the eye. The surgeon can twist the cannula counter-clockwise along the incision to create an oar-lock effect to hold the eye more tightly. The cannula is used to push the eye away in order to improve the ergonomics during the corneal tunnel. The cannula is used to pull the eye toward you during the last part of the triplanar incision with puncture into the anterior chamber. The diamond blade provides a no-resistance wound incision technique facilitated by both blade and cannula positioning.
