The STIHL FSA 70 R is a new battery-powered grass trimmer for home gardeners. Part of the STIHL AK System of battery tools, this cordless grass trimmer is easy to use, lightweight and quiet. The FSA 70 R has our new Rapid Click feature, which means you can change the mowing head in seconds. As standard, it comes with our STIHL AutoCut C 12-2 mowing head, which uses a nylon mowing line. This makes it easy to extend the mowing line with a simple tap on the ground, whilst the grass trimmer is on. But if you would prefer to use it with a PolyCut 12-2 mowing head with polymer blades, simply press the button here to release the mowing head and swap it over. The Rapid Click function also means that it is easy to remove the head when you need to reload the mowing line too. The FSA 70 R cordless grass trimmer comes with a loop handle, which can be easily moved along the shaft to get the perfect position for you. No tools are required for this – just open the clamp as shown in the video and slide it up or down to suit your height. As with all the STIHL AK System tools, there is a handy battery transport position so that you can move around the garden without worrying that you are going to accidentally start the tool. Click the battery in once and it is locked but not live, then click it in once more and you’re ready to go! Once you are in position, first check the area for wildlife, then press the rocker with your thumb, and with your hand across the grip, simply pull the trigger. You have a choice of two power levels when using the STIHL FSA 70 battery grass trimmer. Eco mode can be used for lighter tasks, such as trimming lawn edges, plus you’ll get a longer working time. But if you need a bit more power, simply slide the button forward for Level 2 which can be used for more demanding jobs. With both power levels, the variable trigger can be easily controlled so you can adjust the speed to suit the job at hand, thanks to the brushless EC motor. This battery powered grass trimmer also has an anti-vibration system which means it is more comfortable to use over longer periods. Using the recommended STIHL AK 20 battery will give you a working time of up to 45 minutes with the STIHL FSA 70 R on Eco mode and the standard AutoCut C 12-2 mowing head. This reduces to 25 minutes on full power. But you can also use the bigger capacity AK 30 S battery in this tool for longer working times. The FSA 70 R cordless grass trimmer is available both as a set with a battery and charger, or on its own. This is useful if you already have an AK System battery as they are interchangeable with all the tools in the range. However, we wouldn’t recommend using the FSA 70 grass trimmer with the lowest capacity AK 10 battery as it won’t deliver the power you need. It's always important to wear the correct PPE when using any power tool. With a cordless grass trimmer, we recommend wearing eye and face protection, a sturdy pair of work boots and a pair of grippy gloves.
