Thirupampampuram Pampuranathar Temple is located in Thirupampampuram, Thiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu. It is revered as the Shiva temple where the three saints Appar, Sambandar and Sundarar have sung the Thevaram songs. This is the 59th temple among the Chola and southern Cauvery temples where the Thevaram songs have been sung. This temple is also known as Thirupampampuram and Seshapuri. The deity here is called Pampuranathar, Pampureswarar and Seshapureeswarar. Ambal Bramarambika is also known as Vanduser PungKuzhali or Vandar PunKuzhali. The sacred tree of this temple is: Vanni tree. The holy water of this temple is Adisesha Theertham. The Thala Purana says that Adisesha attained blessings by worshipping Lord shiva in this temple. It is said that the eight great Nagas, namely Anantha, Vasuki, Daksha, Karkodaka, Sangapala, Kulika, Padman, Mahapadman, and the Naga king Adisetha, were worshipped at this temple. It is considered a great place to worship to get rid of Naga dosha, to get pregnant, and to get rid of occasional doshas like Rahu and Ketu. Once, when Lord Ganesha was worshipping Lord Shiva in Kailash, the snake around the Lord's neck became proud, thinking that Lord Ganesha was also worshipping him. Lord Shiva, enraged by this, cursed the entire Naga race to lose all its power. Due to this, Adisetha, who supports the world, Rahu, Ketu, and other Naga races lost all their power and suffered. The Adisesa, who supported the world, became weak and distressed due to its weight. adishesha prayed to God for deliverance from the curse. He blessed them by praying to Him on the day of Shivaratri at the Thirupampuram temple, also known as Seshapuri. Similarly, under the leadership of Adisesa, the other Nagas worshipped Kumbakonam Nageswara in the first hour of Shivaratri, Thirunageswaram Naganathar in the second hour, Thirupampuram Pampura Nathar in the third hour, and Nagore Naganathar in the forth hour, and were freed from the curse. According to the mythological story, Lord Rahu and Ketu became one body and placed Pampura Nathar in their hearts, and Rahu and Ketu received blessings. Therefore, it is said that those who worship Lord Shiva, Goddess Ambika, Rahu and Ketu in this temple will be freed from their sins and their desired goals will be achieved. Rahu and Ketu are enshrined in a separate shrine in the northeast corner of the temple.
