Zoom into Nature: Ohio's Bats

Join us virtually as we welcome Todd Cartner for his presentation, The Unseen Wonders of Ohio’s Bats: Benefits, Research, and Future. Upon leaving his professional career in 2023, Todd began devoting his time to understanding and researching Ohio’s Bats. The Halloween season provides unique opportunities and challenges to better understand these misrepresented and often invisible and unheard creatures. Bats provide numerous little-known benefits to humans, and their presence or absence is imperative to both healthy ecosystems and our food production. In this presentation, we will review common and little-known bat facts, review the taxonomy of both bats in North America and Ohio, and review the conservation status of Ohio’s bats including the impact of White Nose Syndrome. We will also learn about both common and developing bat research methods, including showcasing recent results from Discover Bats Ohio research projects. Aired live: October 29, 2024
