On October 26, 2013, we spend the day railfanning the CSX River Subdivision around Fort Montgomery, NY. Starting off a little after 1000hrs at the eagle overlook on Route 202, we catch southbound intermodal Q008 with a trio of GE's cruise over the low trestle onto Iona Island. Relocating just north to the Bear Mountain bridge we watch northbound Q161 and southbound Q156 snake along the Hudson, making a meet with each other on the controlled siding. I apologize for the shaky camerawork and wind interference but hopefully the view makes up for it. Moving northbound, we match up with southbound oil train K040 at Newburgh with a BNSF cream and green "executive" SD70MAC leading NS and BNSF GE's respectively and a long string of oil cans. The train's slow speed allowed us to catch him again back at CP-43 in Fort Montgomery with a dilapidated structure by the water's edge adding some unique scenery to the foreground. After climbing onto the rock cut for a southbound shot of the Q417, we watch Q438 roll through with a lash of six units, slowing to make at meet with Q417 on the siding. We return after lunch to the other side of the tracks shooting a pair of southbound "K-worms", the first being a K048 oil train with a pair of red CP AC44CW's followed by a K654 ethanol train with a pair of CSX units. Following a ways behind is Q409, shot from the other side of the rock cut now that the sun has disappeared for the day. We end the day at Iona Island, about two miles south of the previous location with northbound Q418 and one of three southbound Q433's that evening. Thanks for watching! (C) 2013 Mainline Productions
