Today’s lecture titled “Towards Smart Cities: Civil Infrastructure Monitoring using AI and Crowdsensing” is delivered by Asst. Prof. Qipei (Gavin) Mei from University of Alberta, Canada. His research primarily focuses on the application of AI and robotics to develop smart and sustainable infrastructure and building systems for the future. In this presentation, a novel framework for civil infrastructure monitoring based on AI and crowdsensing will be introduced. This lecture will showcase two projects within this framework. The first project involves a methodology for bridge damage detection using vibration data collected from a large number of smartphones in moving vehicles. The second project employs deep learning algorithms and vehicle-mounted cameras to assess road surface conditions.
