POV start up and test drive of a Belladonna Purple, 2025 Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II feat. a MASSIVE 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V-12 paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The V-12 throws down 563 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque, Okay wait... I have a HEARTBREAKING (to me) story about this. So I had waited quite a while to get some drive time with this Ghost at this year's Midwest Automotive Media Association Spring Rally. This Ghost in particular was only available for half of one of the days of the rally, so if I was going to experience it, my window was severely limited. There was a Cullinan also at the Rally that was available for the entire duration of the rally, so I figured if I ultimately missed the Ghost, that would be a back up. Can I say out loud that I had no interest in hopping in the Cullinan as a backup? Who am I to be picky, amirite? I said what I said. The anxiety of the Ghost's impending departure made the experience all that more memorable. While I waited, I found myself talking to one of the communications executives from Rolls-Royce. I asked what the process might be like to get into a press car from them. The individual was kind enough to reach out to the local fleet manager that was handling this example to see if it would be available for a few more days after the rally before heading to its next destination. ALAS, IT WAS. I just needed to figure out how to pick it up on my way home from the rally. PERFECT. EASY. NO PROBLEM. And then there was a problem. THERE WAS A PROBLEM!! I had the amazing privilege to drive a press car to the rally, with a return vehicle also included. THE ROLL-ROYCE WAS WITH A DIFFERENT FLEET MANAGEMENT COMPANY THAN THE CARS I WAS ALREADY ASSIGNED WITH. I was committed. And so, I had to let the Rolls-Royce opportunity pass. Could you imagine? A four hour roadtrip in a Rolls-Royce Ghost? As the driver? On the highway? I have imagined; I've thought about all the micro experiences I could’ve had since. I wish there could've been two of me in that moment. Such is. If nothing else I can say I have an email that shows I was approved to be loaned a 2025 Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II; somehow in all this I made it to that moment. I hope this connection lends me the opportunity to experience a RR Phantom in the future. THAT would be an experience to talk about. Next level; even to the Ghost. We’ll circle back to that. Anyway, the Ghost sails like a mega yacht at sea; gliding across every imperfection in the road as if figments of imagination. Power delivery is INSANE, well-balanced, and butter-smooth. I simply couldn't imagine a driving experience of more grandeur than this. Though, I can't say I've driven a Bentley Flying Spur or Mercedes-Maybach S680, for comparison. Perhaps another day... With time being limited, I didn't get to dive too much into all of the Ghost's nitty-gritty things like the infotainment, all the buttons, and features. One of my friends asked if I located the umbrella hidden in the door frame. HOW COULD I MISS THAT? And I did. I can say the leather and interior details dripped nothing but excellence. The fabrics on the floor are abundantly plush, and seem like they would be a hassle to keep clean; the rainy weather did not do those any favors. The switch-activated doors to open and close feel like a next-level automotive feature, but I think I'd rather just handle opening and closing them myself. One of Rolls-Royce unique qualities is its use of a counterclockwise-displaying "power reserve" digital dial on the dashboard, used in lieu of a traditional RPM tachometer. It's almost like RR is telling you not to worry about the engine itself, just let it work and all the information you need is if there is power available to use. Notable on any RR of course is the Spirt of Ecstasy hood ornament; with this example featuring a retractable mechanim to help prevent theft. An experience of a lifetime. A huge thank you to the Midwest Automotive Media Association and Rolls-Royce for the opportunity to drive this! #MAMA25SR Shot on GoPro Hero11 featuring binaural (3D) audio.
