‘BINABAAN NG BATAS NI BONG REVILLA’ WATCH: Atty. Ferdie Topacio of Borracho Film Production shares his thoughts with CinemaBravo on calls to lower movie ticket prices, following the Cinema Exhibitors Association of the Philippines’ (CEAP) statement that ticket cost is not the only factor affecting cinema attendance. Topacio pointed out that Filipinos should remember Republic Act 9640, authored by Bong Revilla in 2009, which reduced the amusement tax on movies from 30% to 10. He said the law helped ease costs and was meant to revive the local film industry at a time when it was struggling. While rising ticket prices are often blamed for declining cinema attendance, CEAP has stressed that other factors also influence people’s decision to watch films in theaters. Borracho Film Production’s latest release, Spring in Prague, opens in cinemas on February 4. The film stars Paolo Gumabao, Czech-Macedonian actress Sara Sandeva, and Manila-based Russian actress Elena Kozlova, with Ynah Zimmerman, Jessy Vidal—who also performs the theme song—and AJ Raval’s brother, Sean Raval.
