The Chao Phraya River is the major river in Thailand, with its low alluvial plain forming the centre of the country. It flows through Bangkok and then into the Gulf of Thailand. The Amphawa Floating Market is about an hour’s drive away from the Bangkok city centre making for a great day trip. The Amphawa Floating Market is divided into 2 sections, first the outer land-based market, here is where you can find a lot of local Thai street food snacks as well as fresh produce. Honestly, exploring the land market is more fun than the actual floating market part because there is more foods and vendors. However, if you want to sit down for an actual bowl of noodles or a plate of seafood then the inner river market is where you want to be. As soon as you arrive in the inner market, the first thing you’ll definitely noticed is the smoky aroma of grilled prawns filling the air and the various boat noodle vendors paddling their way along the river.
