Words below Children of Larbert, 2 parted 9/8 march by DM Bruce El Alamein, Slow Air (sometimes 4 parted 6/8 March, by W. Denholm Words below taken from the poem as shown THE PIPERS OF ALLANDALE Who led attack of the famous 51st Highland Division at El Alamein, October 24th 1942 Far away from the hill and the heather o' Scotland, Lie the Flowers o' the Forest and pride o' the glen, Who looked as they fell on their dear old homeland, The Allandale Pipers at El Alamein On wild hills o' Scotland, when clad in the heather, The flowers in your valleys will bloom once again, Bit the skirl o' the Allandale Pipers will never, That lie in the desert at El Alamein While women and children at home they are weeping For those gallant lads they will ne'er see again There in a cold grave lie peacefully sleeping The Allandale Pipers at El Alamein The scenes in the sands of the desert were changing As the brave 51st swept over the plain T'was the dauntless of Scotland against the enemy raging With the Allandale Pipers at El Alamein Fierce was the battle with guns and the tanks Loud was the cheer as the victory was gained To the skirl o' the pipes through enemy ranks Went the Allandale pipers at El Alamein The enemy's fire and courage was failing Some fled from the battle and thousands were slain "Carry on" was the cry as each piper was falling - The Allandale Pipers at El Alamein Good health to our wounded who in agony lay Peace to our brave lads who died on the plain Good luck to the heroes who won us the day With the Allandale pipers at El Alamein The battle was over, the victory was won, Sons of Auld Scotland have conquered again The victory was dear, there lie scores of her sons With the Allandale Pipers at El Alamein Those small wooden crosses, when carefully read, Will restore in our hearts, what memories remain, They point to the graves of our glorious dead, And the Allandale Pipers at El Alamein We mourn the loss of our gallant and brave, How they fell, but they died not in vain Those braw Highland Laddies who lie in the grave With the Allandale Pipers at El Alamein 7 Sykehead Avenue, Bellshill Robert Irvine
