An online debate has erupted after an Azerbaijani travel vlogger, Davud Akhundzada, was confronted while filming in Jamestown, Accra, during his visit to Ghana in early 2026. Davud, who runs a YouTube channel with over 900,000 subscribers, shared videos from different parts of Accra, including markets and modern areas. However, a video focusing on Jamestown beach, where he highlighted severe plastic pollution, triggered controversy. While filming, a local Jamestown resident and tour guide approached Davud and asked him to stop recording, explaining that the community requires visitors to go through the Tourist Information Centre or use a guide before filming. He cited cultural respect, privacy concerns, and long-standing community rules. Davud attempted to offer money to continue filming, but the guide firmly refused, insisting on proper procedures or asking him to leave. Davud later shared the clip online, describing the encounter as a travel hassle. After the video spread widely on X, many Ghanaians praised the guide for defending community dignity, refusing a bribe, and standing against what they called poverty-focused portrayals of local areas. Others argued there is no clear law banning public filming and said the pollution issue shown deserves attention. The incident has sparked broader conversations about travel ethics, consent, cultural respect, and how foreign vloggers portray African communities.
