"This is my most recent original composition, Old Number 7. This piece is based on a 2-bar phrase of 7 16th notes per bar and utilizes a more traditional Western European style of harmony than I have used in the past when I was more focused on a modern jazz-fusion approach. ​ Over the past 18 months or so, I went back to studying the compositional styles of some of the masters and innovators in Western Harmony who incorporate a wide range of instruments that include strings, brass, woodwinds, and percussion. In this piece, I strove to create something in this traditional harmonic style while experimenting with 7-note rhythmic groupings, and their rhythmic voices in juxtaposition. I wanted this piece to be melodically beautiful, rhythmically interesting, and harmonically simple. All of this while keeping my drumming focused on the groove. As always, I am playing drums and all other midi instruments in the piece. I also mixed the audio and created the video. I am joined by my dear friend Ed DeGenaro who played with passion and beauty on electric guitar.''
