My trip to Kangaroo Island, Australia was truly amazing. The island is absolutely stunning, wild and beautiful. I chose an organized tour because the island is very large and I only had one day to visit it. If I returned I would choose to sleep there one night and explore it more calmly, it is absolutely worth both the time and the expense. One of the visits was dedicated to the koala's Wildlife Sanctuary: they remain motionless on the eucalyptus trees which are truly very tall. At first we couldn't see anything, they manage to camouflage themselves very well with the color of the trunks and leaves. The color between gray and brown is truly perfect for making themselves invisible in their particular environment. But then with the help of the guide when some of them started to move we managed to spot them and film them. I discovered that the name koala, in the Aboriginal language, means "no water". Because these animals get practically all the liquids they need from eucalyptus leaves, and very rarely drink running water. Interestingly, eucalyptus leaves are rich in toxins, but Koalas have developed the ability to neutralize them thanks to liver enzymes. But since it is a very low calorie diet they spend most of their time chewing and... sleeping!
