Chicken of the Sea (Catch & Cook)

Ash and I head out from King Ash Bay Fishing Club on the McArthur River, chasing two target species – Golden Snapper (Finger Mark) and Cod. Our goal? Not just to catch them, but to put them head-to-head in a catch and cook taste test to see which one is truly the CHICKEN OF THE SEA! We push out to the Pellew Islands, a spot we know holds both species. The heat is absolutely brutal, with no wind and crazy humidity. We’re sweating like mad and constantly moving spots just to feel a bit of breeze. Along the way, we catch plenty of undesirables – catfish, sharks, trevally, tricky snapper, and blue salmon – but the golden snapper and cod remain elusive. I manage to land a Golden Snapper and a Gold Spot Cod, just in time for the weather to glass over into absolute perfection. The ocean turns into a mirror, and Ash gets the drone up to capture some footage of the glassed-out conditions. The next morning, I take the buggy down to a shady riverside spot and cook up both fish for a proper side-by-side taste test. Everyone knows Golden Snapper is one of the best fish to eat, but what about Cod?
