Thinking about Colombia immigration in 2026? 🇨🇴 This is Part 2 of my conversation with immigration attorney Owen Taylor, where we get into the questions that usually get skipped — but matter the most when you’re planning to live in Colombia long term. In Part 1, we broke down visa types, approvals, denials, and the path to residency and citizenship. 👉 Watch Part 1 first: • Colombia Immigration Explained (2026) 🇨🇴 V... Colombia Immigration Explained (2026) 🇨🇴 Visas, Residency & Citizenship | Part 1 Now, in this part, we talk about the real-world consequences: • How much a proper Colombian visa application actually costs (2026) • Visa cost estimates by type (including attorney + some government fees): – Visitor visa: ~$400–$500 USD – Migrant visa: ~$600–$800 USD – Resident visa: ~$1,000–$1,100 USD – Citizenship / naturalization + passport: ~$1,000–$1,300 USD • Whether you really need an attorney — or if you can do it alone • The language barrier (the visa website is mostly in Spanish) • Can you work legally on each type of visa? (No — not all visas include a work permit) • Key example: the Digital Nomad Visa does NOT allow working for a Colombian company (remote work only) • How to request a work permit if your visa doesn’t include one (through Colombia’s Ministry / Secretary of Labor) • When taxes “kick in”: 183 days in a 365-day period can trigger tax residency and filing • Other tax triggers discussed: assets and banking / credit card thresholds • DIAN reporting: banks report transactions; a 2026 example threshold discussed is ~72 million COP (~$22,000 USD) • What a Cédula de Extranjería is, who needs it, and why timing matters (you have 15 days after visa approval to request it) • The difference between Cédula de Extranjería (foreigner ID) and Cédula de Ciudadanía (citizen ID) • Once you become a dual citizen, you obtain a Cédula de Ciudadanía — a citizen ID that is issued for life (as of today) • Digital cédulas: currently available for citizens; the government is working on this for foreigners If you’re serious about doing this the right way — legally, financially, and long-term — this part is essential. 📌 This is Part 2 — more episodes coming. 👍 If this helps you, hit like 🔔 Subscribe for future Colombia guides Support the Channel: ko-fi.com/chriswolfcolombia 📩 Business & collaboration inquiries: ChrisWolfColombia@gmail.com #ColombiaImmigration #ColombiaVisas #MovingToColombia #ColombiaResidency #ColombiaCitizenship #ColombiaTaxes #CedulaDeExtranjeria #CedulaDeCiudadania #WorkPermitColombia #LivingInColombia #ExpatColombia #ChrisWolfColombia
