As climate change and extreme weather events threaten food security worldwide, it’s crucial to establish long-term funding for seed banks and stregthen collaboration between organizations to safeguard our world’s crop diversity. In April 2023, a new long-term partnership agreement was signed that will secure the future of two globally important collections of crop diversity. This agreement between the Crop Trust, the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, will provide guaranteed funding to conserve the beans and forages in Palmira, Colombia “to keep some 70,000 seed samples alive and available to researchers, breeders and farmers forever.” On Monday, 4 September, 2023 at 12:00 UTC, join this GLF Live with Sarada Kishnan, director of programs at the Global Crop Diversity Trust, and Michael Abberton, head of the Bioscience Center at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), to explore how this new long-term collaboration can help secure our food future.
