Did you know that around 70% of our earth is covered with ocean water and about 60% of our bodies are made up of water? It is hard to not be aware of how important water is in our lives. The water cycle display presented in this video explains how water moves through the water cycle, connecting the ocean, streams, rivers, land, ground water and the atmosphere. Knowing how water moves on, above and below the surface of the Earth allows scientists to better understand how to better utilize this precious resource and the impact of our water use on life on earth. The water cycle describes how water evaporates from the surface of the earth, rises into the atmosphere, cools and condenses into rain or snow in clouds, and falls again to the surface as precipitation. The water falling on land gathers in rivers and lakes, soil, and much of it flows back into the oceans, where it will once more evaporate. The cycle of water in and out of the atmosphere is a significant aspect of the weather patterns on Earth and relates to our everyday life. The Water Cycle display was awarded the ‘Best Water World Exhibition First Place’ at the Scifest Africa science festival in 2019.
