My New Rolex GMT Pepsi Jubilee - Watch Collection Update!

Just bought a 1982 Rolex GMT Pepsi on Jubilee. That's my birth year so I had to have it! _________________________________________________________________________ Thank you for tuning in I’m Watch Eric. On todays video I am going to be going over my latest acquisition to my watch collection, my 1982 birth year Rolex GMT Master Pepsi. So I just recently ran into this watch and I am super excited mostly because it has the Jubilee band. I have mentioned before on a previous reviews about the new style pepsi with the jubilee band and the Maxi Case that although I like it and it is nice. I do prefer the look of the jubilee on a vintage piece better. I am very excited about this watch. When I did my review on my personal collection I’m not sure if I had just mentioned that it would be cool to have a GMT Pepsi to match my 1982 birth year vintage Rolex Submariner. Sure enough with my luck I actually ran into one. The first thing that I thought is that perhaps he jubilee bracelet was not the original one because this is very common on older watches. To my surprise the stampings on the bracelet were correct for this model. Also the date stamping on the clasp confirmed it to be a 1982. Which was great because in reality depending on what Rolex serial date chart you look at the year can vary from 1983-1984. But by using both the serial and the fact that the clasp date code is 1982 it assured me that I was on the right track. The vintage life is a dangerous life lol. Mostly because there are very subtle variations that change the price, sometimes dramatically. Another thing is they make aftermarket parts for these watches and you almost cannot tell the difference. So that being said it’s not that I bought it blind but I bought it based on my gut feeling. The watch appeared all good and the seller seemed very honest and legit. So i took a risk and bought it. I figured what’s the worst that can happen, maybe the dial may be wrong but I just went for it. Let’s talk about the dial. The dial is a Mrk 1 matte dial and is untouched. The only thing that I noticed is that the hands have been re lumed. Easy way to check that is shine a light on then face of the watch and by now nothing should be glowing. But that did not bother me much. The bezel insert seems to be a service insert because the back is blue and not red. The glass was also replaced and one can tell due to it being so nice. On my 1967 GMT Pepsi the glass is destroyed with scratches everywhere but it being original I feel gives the watch character and I like that. This is a ref# 16750 which is the transitional year were they started to transition from the 1675 to the newer 16700. Most of the time you see these watches with the newer style dial that has the white gold rings around the hour indicators, but the beauty of this model in my opinion is that they only made it for about 8 years and I think it may be increasing in price soon. When i had my watchmaker open it it appears to have been serviced because someone wrote with a marker inside the case back 1992. I did not plan to buy a watch this year mostly because I have started a new business and I need to pump as much money possible into it. But it’s not everyday that you find a clean 1982 pepsi on a jubilee. The condition on the bracelet is good because it's not super slinky so the sag it has is normal. Whenever I see one with way to nice of a bracelet I get concerned that the bracelet may have been replaced with an aftermarket or perhaps a newer DateJust and is very common on older vintage watches. The dial has a nice yellowing that has an even patina. The bezel has a nice wear which gives it character. I forgot to mention that is has the correct 3075 movement. I have read on the furrows and blogs that some people have run into some with the incorrect movement. One easy way to tell is with the order that the hands are stacked on the dial. I also would like to say that I had to make a sacrifice. I was not supposed to purchase any watches this year so I am going to sacrifice one of my Rolex 16610LV Kermits in order to fund this project. I feel that at the end of the day this watch will add more dynamic to my collection. Thank you for watching and comment below what you think about my new Rolex GMT.
