The catheter is a thin rubber tube that carries urine from your bladder to a urine collection bag through a small incision in your lower abdomen. Make sure to always keep the urine collection bag lower than your hips to ensure that the urine flows freely down from your bladder to the bag. To clean the bag, after washing your hands thoroughly and wearing disposable gloves, open the drain valve over a toilet. After all the urine has drained away, close the drain valve. While cleaning the catheter tube, make sure not to pull on it and to wipe away from the incision. Make sure to clean your catheter at least once a day.
