Tropical Paris, flamingos' lagoon and a seaside fortress - simply Cienfuegos! Today we continue exploring this city founded by the French, getting to know its surroundings. The Pearl of the South hides many secrets and today we discover them. A triumphal arch, an Arabian palace, Cuban Miami, but also a failed nuclear power plant and locomotive graveyard, all in one place. We will also tell you why double street names are used in Cuba and a bit about Polish Small Fiats 126p. --------------------------------------------------- We start our adventure in the morning, going to the Castillo de Jagua castle, where we get to by boat, sailing to the other side of the Cienfuegos Bay. It is the first fortress on the southern coast of Cuba, defending access to the bay. On the way, we also stop at Rancho Luna. (00:20) The next destination is Laguna Guanaroca, which is famous for large numbers of flamingos which come there every day to feed in its shallow shellfish-rich waters. It is a nature reserve, so in order not to frighten the animals, boats powered by muscles are used on the lagoon. (03:25) After returning to the city, we visit the beautifully renovated Ferrer Palace located by the Martí Park, from whose tower you can admire the panorama of Cienfuegos and the whole area. From here we will see a modern oil refinery and the remains of a failed nuclear power plant. We also visit the only maritime museum of this type in Cuba and wander around the less touristy areas of the city, discovering the forgotten Locomotive Park. Today we eat like real Cubans. In the afternoon we go to the local "Miami", so the Punta Gorda peninsula, located at the very end of the Malecon. An interesting building in that area is a palace built in the Arab style. At sunset we say goodbye to this beautiful city. We will visit places that we think are worth seeing when traveling there and we will show the Cuban everyday life of its ordinary inhabitants. When you go to Cuba, you can have many plans and expectations, but the reality of this country is surprising and you have to be ready for spontaneity. And that was our journey, full of adventures and surprises. We've been wanting to go there for a long time and finally made our dream come true.
