XHDATA have created over the past few years some very popular, low cost, DSP radios. The little D-219 is amongst the latest of these. Retailing at around £10 it's quite a bargain. At its heart is the Si4825 radio on a chip. The 4825 is one of the more simpler versions of 48 series and is designed for radios with mechanical displays and outputs in mono only. During this weekend, I tested it here in Dundee, Scotland. Outdoors, it received Reach Beyond Australia on 15460 around 14.00 utc, and local MW station Greatest Hits Radio on 1162 and Radio Scotland on 92.7 FM. Despite it's small aerial and little speaker it performed quite well and is a very similar radio to its predecessor, the XHDATA D328 which incorporated a simple Mp3 player. OK, the D-219 is at £10, a modest radio. However, it's good for those seeking an introduction to dxing and for those of more modest means. Such radios help keep Shortwave alive. 73 and GDX.
