Original: Where Is That Bustling Marketplace Now ~ Immemorial Marketeers // あの賑やかな市場は今どこに 〜 Immemorial Marketeers (Touhou 18 - Unconnected Marketeers) Title: Where is that Bustling Marketplace Now ~ Immemorial Marketeers Circle & Arranger: ssbbmaster Album: Imprecisely Rendered Release Date: 15/09/2021 Image Source: https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/100407688 by @cmy Buy the (physical) album here: https://ssbbmaster.bandcamp.com/album/impr... Here's their YouTube-channel: / @ssbbmaster ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "epic final boss music is epic" - In-fucking-deed. So epic indeed that I revived the tag system. For those of you who joined me in my juvenile journey, I had the tags "Epic" and "Godlike" for classic/orchestral/symphonic arrangements that I found utterly amazing or outright eargasm-inducing respectively good. I'm free of shame admitting that many of them make me cry cause they're just THAT good. There's also a metal equivalent, "badass" and "kickass", but besides the "Epic"-tag, the others are kinda... cringe. Like I said, I was young. So I'm thinking about different tags for the same concepts ;D BUT enough of that, the text is long enough as is already. First, join me in thanking ssbbmaster for their permission to re-upload their arrangement! That's really nice of them! :-D And, let's be real, the rise of musicians in the YouTube-Touhou-Sphere, makes it much easier to find arrangements of (relatively) new themes, which is a blessing. So yeah, thanks again! Now I just need to find a metal arrangement of Chimata's theme - and get the Ok to use it. But oh well, let's get started. In the mail I contacted ssbbmaster with, I compared their sound to a blend between Oriens and S.H.O., which I need to recindicate a bit. It's more like Oriens and Melodic Taste. Honestly, it feels a bit like it could have been part of the "Ancient Treasures" album by ORIENS with the combination of hard rock or metal elements with intricate classic instrumentalisation. And for the record, that album is one of my favourites. It's absolutely stellar. Nightmare and Crisis Core are among the definitive arrangements of Sleeping Terror and Strawberry Crisis respectively. The other half of the comparison, Melodic Taste, very often has a peculiar ethereal feel to it, as I mentioned a few days ago. But there is always just sheer elegance in there very often combined with a march-like feeling of approaching danger - see "Trine Intentions" on "Symphonic Suite of Lapis Lazuli". But enough about that! This particular arrangement is full of greatness. If my ears don't deceive me, there's a koto in there as well, starting at ~0:26, which is a great addition. A really nice contrast with the drums and guitar and the swelling pompous, brass and violin-heavy western-sounding orchestra. Also, sweet lord, I love the sound of taiko drums. They fit the whole "epic march of a god" vibe very well. Originally, taikos were used as war drums, so it's the perfect choice to highlight this powerful adversary heading our heroes' way. I especially adore the part between 2:45 to 4:00. The tension and buildup are mesmerizing as is the almost sheer frenzy before the four-minute mark is *chefskiss*. Just the sound of the guitar riffs, monstrous taiko drums and high-pitched, fanatic violins are... Goddamn, I need a minute to calm down. I wholeheartedly agree with a comment on the original upload of this particular piece that essentially boils down to "I hope this turns off a lot of people from hating Chimata's theme". Cause it is a very versatile base for fantastic arrangements of any musical genre. Either my horizons have been widened or not, but out of all the Immemorial Marketeer arrangements I've listened to over the last while, not a single one was a miss. So it's pretty alright. Take care.
