where was this module 10 years ago? apparently i got mine just in time as the website is no longer even up. i haven't exactly been following the drama that closely but from what i gather two companies collaborated on building the Ectocore. Toad Stool Electronics made the hardware and Infinite Digits designed the software. together they made 2 batches of what I'm guessing was 500 or 1000 each and sold out immediately. this was about 9 or 10 months ago i believe. at this point Toad Stool was no longer interested in building any more whereas Infinite Digits wanted to continue to supply the demand for more. i think it was about 2 months ago Infinite Digits replicated the hardware on their own and along with their own software and a new face plate did another run of 2 batches. Toad Stool is not happy about this and i assume is trying to take legal action. this is about where i became aware of the module. for years I'd been dreaming of a drum machine or sampler or some device that could do exactly what this th #breakcore #ectocore #infinitedigits ing does and about a month or two ago my friend sends me a picture of the Ectocore with a description. of course by this point they were sold out everywhere and there was only one for sale between Modular Grid, eBay and Reverb and it was over 600 bucks and located in Italy. i was so close to biting the bullet but i was able to reel myself in and held off. i'm so glad i did because a week later my friend sent me a link and this time it was to the pre-order page for the second batch of "controversy" Ectocores. i ordered immediately and i believe a few days later the website was down. i'm just glad i got one while i could. i don't know the particulars. Toad Stool is claiming these are "counterfeit". i think that's going a bit far. it's a similar argument with Behringer. Was it a shady move by Infinite Digits? maybe, although it's their software so if you're no longer willing to produce their hardware be prepared for them to go elsewhere. it's not as if Toad Stool has the patent on jack sockets and potentiometers so i don't know what kind of copyright or intellectual property laws apply in this situation but people have been trying to go after Behringer for years for similar reasons and they lose every time. it's sad that some things have to get broken down into "mine", "it's mine", "it's ours", "that's not yours" then on the other hand you have Mutable Instruments. everything is open source, anyone can use it and expand upon it. in any case, it's a great module. if you can get your hands on one do it because if you're into breakcore or drum n bass it is the best way to get amen breaks into your rack. I've tried sample players, like the tiptop one, 2hp play, and a few others, I've tried Erica Synths Sample Drum which worked better but still not quite what i wanted. the Sqid Salmple from ALM was on the list but i had my doubts. my next try was going to be the Squarp Rample but then i heard the new Rample Turbo was coming so i put it off. But this is the one. you could probably play a show with just the Ectocore and some sort of synth voice or sample player .
