St Francis Bay gets Smashed by Strong Winds

When the Wind Wins: St Francis Bay St Francis Bay in September and October is famously our windy season, and for the last couple of years we somehow dodged the worst of it… until 2025 showed up swinging. As I’m writing this, we’re staring down another four solid days of onshore wind hammering the coastline. It’s all good when the wind eventually swings offshore and starts grooming the sandbanks into clean, running walls. But every surfer knows the deal: when the switch happens, we don’t want a 0-to-100 snap. We want that slow clean-up, the mellow fade, the wind backing off and gifting us those perfect, glassy tubes. This year though? It’s been exceptional in the weirdest way. Constant back-and-forth wind patterns every few days, like a chaotic tag-team match between the ocean and the atmosphere. Each front takes its turn blasting the S@&*^%$ out of us… then throws out a rainbow like a peace offering. Classic St Francis surf weather. In this episode, I bring you one of those full-on windy days we’ve been dealing with. Honestly the first time in a long time where I can say it out loud: the wind actually WON.
