As vehicles transform from cars with apps to "software on wheels," the automotive industry is facing a major shift in how to tackle vehicle security. Modern software-defined vehicles (SDVs) now come with over 100 million lines of code spread across more than 100 applications. This creates a much larger attack surface, which directly impacts vehicle safety. In this session, we’ll dive into the critical intersection of cybersecurity and safety in SDVs, focusing on memory-based vulnerabilities in C/C++ code used in vehicle embedded systems, an area that cybercriminals are actively targeting. We’ll also explore how to balance safety, security, and innovation to meet the growing market demand for SDVs, covering topics like: Deploying runtime memory protection within resource-constrained Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) Implementing memory safety without needing to modify source code Protecting vehicles throughout their lifecycle, including aftermarket modifications and secondary lifecycle challenges Integrating memory protection with broader security frameworks like AUTOSAR and ISO 26262 Attendees will gain valuable insights into how memory protection technology can act as a key security layer to enhance vehicle safety while enabling continued innovation. This session is for automotive security professionals, software architects, compliance officers, and anyone responsible for rolling out software-defined vehicle technology. Navigating these challenges together will lead to a safer, more secure future for SDVs. Speaker: Joseph Saunders Founder & CEO, RunSafe Security Joe Saunders is Founder & CEO of RunSafe Security. He leads a team of former national security cyber experts on a mission to make critical infrastructure safe. Working with companies such as Lockheed Martin, GE Vernova, and Vertiv as well as the US Army, US Navy, US Air Force, and dozens of other organizations, RunSafe Security identifies risk in your software supply chain, prevents exploitation of embedded systems, and monitors software for indicators of compromise and bugs.
