The Tapestry of the Apocalypse The famous tapestry of the Apocalypse is kept in Château d'Angers, former residence of the Dukes of Anjou. In 1373, Louis I of Anjou commissions a sumptuous tapestry illustrating the Book of Revelation according to Saint John. Jean Bondol known as Hennequin de Bruges was a famous official painter at the court, worked on the tapestry and created "portraitures et patrons", that is to say, cartoons and mock-ups. The creation of the masterpiece was entrusted to the workshop of the Paris weaver, Robert Poisson. The whole work was completed in 1382. Originally, the tapestry was composed of six sets. With time almost third of the tapestry was lost, scenes have disappeared forever. Some descriptions helped in imagining the lost scenes.
