Éowyn, the niece of the King of Rohan (Théoden) wishes that she could escape from her life on Meduseld and starts to dream of a mysterious man. At the same time, Faramir, son of the Steward of Gondor (Denethor) and the protector of Osgiliath, starts to dream of a mysterious woman. As Osgiliath is attacked by the orcs the small amount of men positioned there are overwhelmed and as the road to Minas Tirith is closed his men convince Faramir that he should flee to Rohan. He reaches Helm's Deep, where he is greeted and taken care of by the King's men. As he recovers in the keep he spots Éowyn and realises that she is the woman he's been dreaming about. The two never interract during this time but watches each other from a distance. When Faramir has recovered he makes his way back to Gondor and Éowyn, feeling sad, watches him go. When they have been separated they both start to dream again but now it's like they live a different life in their dreams where there's no trouble and they can be together. In these dreams they become friends and over the upcoming years they interract like this, to the dismay and anger of both Théoden and Denethor who both believe that they should not dwell on dreams. Then comes the War of the Ring and the story's the same as in the movies; the beacons of Minas Tirith are lit and call for help from Rohan. As Théoden decides to go to war Éowyn decides to accompany the army. At the same time the dreams begin to go away and Faramir talks to Gandalf the White about this, referring to the dreams as "his second life". The wizard becomes worried about this but has no time to analyze it further as Faramir is sent off to reclaim Osgiliath. Even though she does not know what has happened Éowyn realises that something is wrong and disguises herself as a man to be able to go with the army. At this time Faramir is brought back mortally wounded from the battle and Denethor, mad with grief, decides that both he and his son shall burn before the city is taken. The battle of Pelennor commences and Éowyn comes face to face with the Witchking of Angmar. During this duel she remembers the times she and Faramir spent together in their dreams and it gives her enough strength to shove her sword through the ringwraith, killing him. Théoden passes away while giving Éowyn his blessing at the same time as Faramir is brought back to life. Éowyn wakes up in the Houses of Healing and finds Faramir watching over her. After Éowyn has recovered the two meet up and talk for the first time outside of their dreams, confessing their love for one another and later get married :) Sepia is the real world, greyscale is the dreams
