The Norfolk Police Department’s End of Summer COPsicle Tour will kick off this Saturday, September 14, with a headliner guaranteed to be sweet, and enhance community engagement between residents and officers in a unique way. An ice cream truck is now the newest and biggest engagement tool in the department’s dynamic community outreach arsenal. Norfolk Police Department continues its tradition of community outreach firsts, as the first law enforcement agency in Virginia to own a fully operated ice cream truck, dedicated solely to improve civic relations. The Norfolk Police Foundation sponsored the ice cream truck to create more positive synergy in the communities for mutual trust. Chief Larry D. Boone believes the ice cream truck will get the attention of residents and promote easy conversations. “It’s important that our officers’ outreach, touch the hearts and minds with emotion. Now, we’re touching the appetite with ice cream, and I have yet to know anyone who doesn’t enjoy ice cream!” Residents are welcome to enjoy free ice cream in each of Norfolk’s 3 Patrol Divisions at the following locations, Saturday, September 14, 2019 beginning at Noon: 12:00pm - Berkley Park - 706 Walker Avenue 1:00pm - Lafayette Park - 3500 Granby Street 2:00pm - Northside Park - 8400 Tidewater Drive Additionally, officers will host fun activities and games for youth, at each of the End of Summer COPsicle Tour stops.
