Soil colour is the key indicator of soil health across the landscape which can't be measured by remote sensing. The farmers, growers and graziers consider healthy soil as one that is black, brown or dark colored, whereas unhealthy soils are white, yellow, red or light colored, which however may or may not be the case. Some soil colors are inherited from the parent material. Other colors provide valuable insight into the soil environment and hence are very important in assessment, classification, remediation and soil management. However, like all other soil properties, color should always be observed to the whole profile and characteristics such as mottles, gley and other color patterns must be recorded and properly interpreted. Soil color can be very deceiving and as such it must always be assessed in situ, in the soil pit, because it cannot be determined by remote sensing. #jirasic #soilregeneration #soilhealth #soilsurvey #agribusiness #irrigation
